A stock adjustment reduces stock for reasons other than a sale: damage, expiry, theft, or a count that came out lower than the system.
- Go to Stock Adjustment › Add.
- Choose the Business Location, the date and the Adjustment type:
- Normal: everyday losses (spillage, breakage).
- Abnormal: unusual losses (theft, fire, flooding).
- Search and add the products, with the quantity to remove for each.
- Total amount recovered: if you got some money back (e.g. you sold damaged goods cheaply or insurance paid), enter it.
- Write the Reason (e.g. "5 bags damaged by rain").
- Click Save.
Stock reduces immediately, and the value appears in reports such as the Profit/Loss report.
What if the count shows more stock than the system?
A stock adjustment only reduces stock. If you find extra items, record them as a Purchase (if bought) or add them through Add or Edit Opening Stock (if they were never recorded). Better still, check first for a sale recorded twice, an unrecorded return, or a transfer not received.
Tip: Do regular stock counts and compare with Reports › Stock Report. Small differences caught early are easier to explain. See Stock looks wrong.
